The 2015 Summit 65 MTB Sportive takes place at the Chiltern Cycling Festival on Sunday, 12th July at Penn House, Beaconsfield for the first time.

Established four years ago, the Summit 65 is among the best loved off-road sportives in the south of England and is a welcome addition to the huge variety of rides offered by the Chiltern Cycling Festival according to festival organiser, Nick O’Brien: “Bringing an established event like the Summit 65 into the Festival is a great addition to our line-up as it means there is something for every cyclist in the region to enjoy from road, trails and family rides. Summit MTB’s partnership with us also brings a higher level of professionalism including chip timing to the Summit 65 so it’s good news for us all.”

In 2015, the main Summit 65 route will be 65 kilometres long with a shorter 30k option and is intended for mountain bikes, although cyclo cross bikes are also welcome to enter.  Riders start from Penn House between 09.30-10.00 for the 65k route and 10.00-10.30 for the 30k option, returning in the afternoon to enjoy the Festival.

“With two fantastic routes, the Summit 65 is the best way to explore the finest single-track in the central Chilterns, which is notorious for being difficult to navigate. All routes are way-marked with over 75% off road, and riders will each receive a route map and GPX route file. They’ll be a route control point at the Lotts Wood  MTB race course in Hyde Heath and a feed station near Wendover”, commented Summit 65 organiser Stephen Wooding. “With vintage stalls, bike expo, farmers market, a VIP champagne area, gourmet food and drink the Summit 65 at the Chiltern Cycling Festival will be a great summer’s day out.”

The 65k route is a challenging endurance event aimed at experienced off road riders, whilst the 30k option is geared for social riders and those under 16 riding with a parent/guardian. The first 25 riders home who have completed the full 65k course will receive a gold standard medal, whilst the winning team will be presented with a trophy at the Chiltern Cycling Festival.

Summit MTB Go Ride is also running an off-road multiple race event for young riders aged 6 -16 within the grounds of Penn House run by Summit MTB’s qualified British Cycling coaches in a safe, controlled and supportive environment. They’ll be a fun obstacle course time trial, short-course race and hill climb with prizes for the fastest boy and girl in each age category. There is no on-line entry for this children’s event as parents and children can come along and register on the day. All young riders should be using a mountain bike or a hybrid in good working order, fitted with gears and treaded tyres.

Summit MTB is also hosting a short ride to Lotts Wood and back to Penn House plus an entry into the Chiltern Cycling Festival’s Concours d’Elegance competition for classic mountain bikes made in the last century to promote its new Summit 26 MTB Classic event on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August at Chenies Manor House.
